Educational Objectives:
To educate the students to take the Socialist’s perspective, to adapt to the needs of the market economy and technology development, to have comprehensive development in moral, intelligence, sports and aesthetics education, to train planners and other advanced planning talents with strong professional basic theory and skills. Objective 1:[ foundation knowledge] Train students to grasp principles, methods and skills on planning, design, construction and management of the built environment; to understand knowledge in related fields; to master advanced planning and design methods of landscape architecture.
Objective 2: [problem-solving ability] Make students realize that landscape architecture plays an important role in the dynamic system of natural and built environment. Help the students to develop a systematic approach.
Objective 3: [team-work and leadership] Base on the basic principles and skills in landscape architecture, architecture and urban planning, enable students to resolve problems creatively.
Objective 4: [systematic understanding of the discipline] To provide training on communication skills and collaboration ability in group work, to cultivate students’ leadership and coordination skills.
Objective 5:[ ability of evaluating social and environmental impacts] Encourage students to devote their energy to the harmony between human and nature, to establish sound professional judgments and value, and to make contribution to build a healthy, sustainable earth.
Objective 6:[ global perspective] To teach knowledge in a global background, and help students keep consciousness in globalization, understand the vernacular value, balance the relationship between local and global, carry out tasks competitively and responsibly.
Objective 7:[lifelong learning] Graduates can be involved in landscape planning, design, construction, management and research, and also in architectural design, city planning, tourism planning, construction of the ecological environment, heritage protection, conservation of natural resources.
Programme Features:
This discipline is a part of the built environment science, which include urban planning, architecture and landscape architecture, in order to foster landscape architecture focused professionals who also have integrated knowledge of architecture and urban planning. The course structure include a three-year common training with architecture and urban planning students, and two-year professional training in landscape architecture.The subject system includes the general education in earlier three years and the expanded education in later two years. emphasizing a broad discipline foundation, a strong practice ability, and the freedom of choice based on personal interest.
Educational Requirements:
The objective of each course is composed of a corresponding set of cultivation purposes, which are the appropriate knowledge, ability and quality that students are supposed to gain.
Knowledge Structure:
A1 Fundamental knowledge of literature, history, philosophy and art: accumulate a wealth of knowledge of the humanities, especially the knowledge of built environment, architecture, history of Chinese and western traditional gardens and cultural knowledge
A2 Fundamental knowledge of social science research methods: study landscape architecture from the sociological perspective.
A3 Fundamental and frontier knowledge of natural science and engineering: master the basic knowledge of geography, ecology, landscape plants and hydrology
A4 Fundamental knowledge of mathematics and logic: master the basic knowledge of advanced mathematics, compulsory calculus basis
A5 Core knowledge of landscape architecture: landscape planning and design
A6 Knowledge of specialized technique: site planning, Landscape heritage conservation and reuse etc.
A7 Management knowledge: Law and Administration of landscape architecture
A8 Cross-cultural, international knowledge: through international workshop and design on special topic to develop an international perspective and cross-cultural knowledge
Ability Requirements:
B1The ability of clear thinking and accurate language expression: master the basic terms of landscape architecture, can clarify the design concept and design process
B2 The ability of discovering, analyzing and solving problems: especially for the landscape issues on site, town, regional scale
B3 The ability of critical thinking and independent working: the ability of critical thinking on issues in the development process of landscape architecture, can be independent working in landscape architecture
B4 The ability of cooperating and communicating with different people: can carry out research, analysis, planning and design in landscape architecture with a group, has the ability to do research in the built environment and communicate with others
B5 Preliminary aesthetic ability on the literary and artistic work: appreciating ability on fine art, architecture, and landscape architecture, graphic skills
B6 At least one foreign language proficiency: learn College English, open up some English curriculum and bilingual courses
B7 The capacity for lifelong learning: Develop comprehensive relative knowledge and skills in landscape architecture planning, design, construction and management, maintain their interests and abilities of lifelong learning in professional practice.
B8 Organizational and management capacity: coordinate with people in relating fields.
B9A sense of innovation and creativity; To enable the students have a sense of innovation and innovative capacity through studying historical theory as well as developing the ability of critical thinking and analysis.
B10 Analytical writing skills: with the basic ability to analyze specific professional issues and be able to express it in an academic way.
B11 Planning and design skills: With professional skills of architectural design, landscape planning and design , landscape engineering expertise.
