Educational Objectives:
The programme aims to cultivate the professional compound talents who can adhere to the socialist road, with all-round development of morality, intelligence and physique. The students should be able to reach the following goals upon the completion of the degree program:
Objective 1:[Foundations] To generate a solid understanding of the fundamental knowledge of materials science and engineering discipline, in particular the fundamental theories of methods and tools on the synthesis and characterization of polymers, polymer composites, new functional materials, to get a preparation for the ability on materials design and R&D in practice by using acquire practical skills in designing, synthesizing, fabricating, processing, testing and evaluating of materials.

Objective 4:[Engineered Systems] To realize the important role of polymer science and polymer engineering in national economy, science and technology aspects; to become professionals in solving materials-related theoretical and/or technical problems through studies, trainings and practices.
Objective 5:[Societal Impact] To appreciate the potential influence of chemistry on selection, design and application of polymeric materials to everyday life, economic structure and human health.
Objective 6:[Global Awareness] To maintain clear global awareness with the growth in globalization trends and perform own duties in a responsible and competitive manner.
Objective 7:[Lifelong Learning] To educate undergraduate students with professional ability who can pursue career in the fields of polymer and corresponding materials and processing, R&D in new functional materials, modern materials testing, design and processing of, and production management, also they can pursue chance in research positions in institute or universities; can pursue advanced studies and get master's or doctor's degrees. To become an compound talents who can through scientifically designed programs for studies and practices, and to gain abilities of practicing self-perfection, self-improvement and lifelong learning, in addition to commanding professional knowledge.
Programme Features:
Polymer Materials and engineering is one of College Distinguishing Speciality of Ministry of Education, one of College Famous Speciality of Guangdong Province, which keeps optimizing and perfecting the practice teaching and training expect finish the basic theories on polymer science and polymer engineering, combining with high ratio of engineering practice, and is famous for a long history in undergraduate education focus on “entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity”. A famous professional teaching team is leaded by academician of the Chinese Academy of Science and Scholar of the Yangtze River. By complement the advantages of education in the traditional polymeric material with high-tech materials, polymer materials and engineering speciality has encountered a fast development in new frontier interdisciplinary, such as polymer optoelectronic materials and devices, polymer functional materials, high performance complex materials, nano-materials, biomaterials and eco-friendly materials, in education, research, development. It requires students to acquire the interrelationships between structure, processing and properties of polymeric materials. The students are introduced to the fundamental concepts and core techniques of design, synthetic and testing of materials, The students are also required to necessary technological skills of research and development on new materials using basic theories and skills upon the completion of the specialty courses.
The graduates should possess a solid understanding of the theoretical basis for this discipline and a broad appreciation of engineering related subjects, and have the potential and abilities to pursue higher degrees.
