Educational Objectives:
This programme fosters high-level research talents who can adapt the social and scientific developments in the 21st century and satisfy the needs of national modernization development. Through the study students are also expected to possess noble moral characters, profound foundation knowledge of the relevant disciplines, innovation and research abilities, excellent comprehending ability, open international and social perspectives, and strong innovative and cooperative spirits.
Objective 1 [Foundations]: to have solid fundamental knowledge and experimenting skills of chemistry; to possess fundamental knowledge of certain engineering techniques and technique management; to a good scientific thinking and modern experimental methods.
Objective 2 [Professional Knowledge]: to be able to creatively solve questions of applied study, technique R & D, scientific and technological management, and general production technology through applying basic principles and experimental skills of chemistry and chemical engineering.
Objective 3 [Teamwork/Leadership]: to have communication and cooperation ability in teamwork and to obtain leadership ability in Applied Chemistry and related fields.
Objective 4 [Engineered Systems]: to become aware that Applied Chemistry is an application-type specialty that can rapidly realize the transformation of research achievements into practical products and serve for the society and the world.
Objective 5 [Societal Impact]: to understand the potential effects of Applied Chemistry on daily life, ecological environment, and human health.
Objective 6 [Global Awareness]: Cultivating students having clear consciousness in globalization environment, and performing their responsibilities competitively and responsibly.
Objective 7 [Lifelong Learning]: Applied Chemistry undergraduates should be competent for scientific research and teaching jobs for research institutions and colleges and universities, and technological exploitation, production, and management jobs for enterprises and institutions such as fine chemical industry enterprises, trading companies, and governmental sectors such as ports, customs, commodity inspection, public security, and environmental protection. Also, Applied Chemistry undergraduates have the ability of lifelong learning.
Specialty Features:
The Applied Chemistry programme has been given the award as “the Most Prestigious Major” among universities and colleges in Guangdong Province, and also is one of the earliest majors in the university which has received good comments from the country’s programme examiners. The programme combines integrates nature science and engineering, with a focus on the training of students’ practical skills and creativity. It has an excellent tradition and distinguishing features in these fields including the studies of chemistry and chemical engineering analytic techniques, applications of new chemistry and chemical engineering methods, chemical engineering commodity inspection, quality supervision, and trade management.
Educational Requirement:
It is requisite for students of Applied Chemistry specialty to have good political quality and moral cultivation, solid fundamental theory and knowledge and good experimental skills of chemistry, and knowledge of related engineering techniques, and to be trained into excellent scientific thinking and experimental skills on basic and applied studies. Our students should have outstanding scientific literacy, and can engage in applied study, technique exploitation, and scientific and technological managements through utilizing grasped knowledge and good experimental skills. Students of Applied Chemistry specialty should be qualified to do research, teaching, and management in scientific research institution, colleges and universities, and enterprise and public institution.

A7 Computer Knowledge of solving engineering questions on chemical engineering processing exploitation and designing;
A8 Interdisciplinary subject knowledge with physics, biology, and material science.
