On March 7, ArchDaily announced its 2017 ArchDaily China Building of the Year Awards. The Dachang Muslim Cultural Center (燕郊大厂民族宫) in Hebei province, a masterpiece designed by a group of SCUT architects, along with the Chetian Cultural Center and the Central Canteen of Tsinghua University, was named the Buildings of the Year in China.

According to ArchDaily, one of the most visited and influential architecture websites worldwide, this is the debut edition of the awards, "with over 7,000 votes cast over 3 weeks to filter over 300 projects published on ArchDaily China in 2016 to find the 3 best works that mainland China and Hong Kong have to offer."

Both the architectural design and interior design of the Dachang Muslim Cultural Center were undertaken by the Architectural Design & Research Institute of SCUT, led by CAE Academician He Jingtang as the principal architect.

Since the construction of the 35,000-square-metre building was completed in 2015, its beauty has won attentions of architects, professionals and media outlets from all over the world.

In last October, the London-based architectural magazine Dezeen published an article on its design ideas, quoting the architect's words: "the building subtly interprets the spatial structure of a mosque with new materials and technologies."

Then in November, ArchDaily posted its in-depth review on this cultural center with multiple functions, noting "it has undoubtedly brought lots of challenges to the designer, because of the special ethnic composition, historical context, religious belief, complex functional requirements of the site and the setting of a cultural landmark."
