A new international campus of SCUT will be built in Guangzhou to advance high-level education and scientific research, with the Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE), Guangdong provincial government, Guangzhou municipal government, and SCUT working together to facilitate the plan.

On March 15 in Beijing, witnessed by CPC Politburo member and CPC Secretary of Guangdong province Hu Chunhua, Minister of Education Chen Baosheng, Guangdong Governor Ma Xingrui and Guangzhou Mayor Wen Guohui, an agreement of carrying out the ambitious joint effort was signed up by representatives from the four partners.

Focusing on emerging disciplines and interdisciplinary fields like high-end equipment manufacturing, quantum communication, brain science and artificial intelligence, the SCUT Guangzhou International Campus will be creating tremendous educational opportunities to talented youngsters, as well as conducting research on frontier sciences and promoting technology transfers.

The operation of this demonstration campus will be based on SCUT’s collaboration with a number of world-class overseas universities, offering full supports to China’s major demands and the innovation-driven strategy of Guangdong province and Guangzhou city.

Sited in Panyu District of Guangzhou, the new campus will be located close to the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center, covering an area of 1,650 acres with an estimated cost of over 10 billion yuan investment.

The blueprint includes 10 sub-colleges that will be hosting 6,000 undergraduate students and 6,000 graduate students after full installation of the current plan, which seeks to build an entire student training system to provide integrated Bachelor's/Master's/PhD programs.

President Wang Yingjun signed the deal on behalf of SCUT, with Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee Zhang Xichun, Vice Presidents Zhu Min and Dang Zhi, and standing member of the CPC SCUT Committee Tao Shaoqing also present on the ceremony.
