SCUT and the City University of Hong Kong will work together to innovate patterns of cooperation to promote talent fostering and scientific research, after a meeting between leaders of the two universities took place on October 23.

Professor Way Kuo, President of the City University of Hong Kong, paid a visit to SCUT’s campus, and was received by SCUT’s President Professor Wang Yingjun and Vice President Professor Zhu Min.

Wang Yingjun introduced to the guests about SCUT’s general situation and its progress in building the Guangzhou International Campus. She pointed out that the collaboration in higher education between Guangdong and Hong Kong was of great importance, and universities in these two areas should strengthen their partnership to help build the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

After exchanging views of the orientation and experiences in managing higher education, leaders of the two universities agreed that SCUT and CityU both show academic strengths in science and engineering, and share similar backgrounds.

The two universities will seek for substantial supports from their alumni, and look into various possibilities of running joint PhD student training programs, especially in materials science, electronic and information engineering, and animal medical science.

Heads of SCUT’s International Office, Graduate School and School of Electronic and Information Engineering were also present on the meeting.
