Introduction to SCUT
Located in the thriving and livable metropolis of Guangzhou, South China University of Technology (SCUT) is a prestigious institution listed under “Double First Class University Plan”, “Project 985” and “Project 211”, the state’s most significant education projects for founding world-class universities. After 65 years of development, SCUT has become a comprehensive research university focusing on technology and promoting well-coordinated development of science, management, economics, arts, law and medicine.
SCUT occupies a competitive position in four major global universities ranking systems. SCUT ranks 235th in the world and 11th in China according to Academic Ranking of World Universities. 9 disciplines hit the top 1% of global ESI ranking list, and 3 disciplines (Engineering, Material Science and Chemistry) hit the top 1‰, taking the 7th place in China. SCUT brings together a group of high-level talents led by academicians and nationally outstanding teachers. So far, 10 full-time academicians have joined SCUT faculty.The number of Highly Cited Researchers ranks the 4th among all universities in China. Up to now, 186 national or provincial Key Research Institutions have been established.
In March 2017, a cooperative agreement on joint construction was signed by MOE, Guangdong provincial government, Guangzhou municipal government and SCUT, with the aim of building the international campus of SCUT. In order to achieve the goal of developing an international top-ranking campus, the international campus will cooperate with prestigious overseas colleges and universities, focusing on the interdisciplinary fields such as life science, high-end equipment manufacturing, quantum communication, brain science, artificial intelligence and new energy resource, etc. According to the construction plan, the international campus of SCUT covers an area of 1,100,000 m2. Now the campus is under construction.
In order to promote a new round of development, SCUT now calls for excellent overseas talents to construct high-level teaching staff with an international vision. Excellent young talents are welcome to join SCUT, a creative and dynamic university.
1. Qualifications for the Invitees
We are inviting excellent young talents with well acknowledged achievement or high potentials in natural science, engineering technology, biomedicine, economic administration, humanities & social sciences and other fields. We prioritize overseas (foreign) talents under the age of 40 with doctorate of domestic and overseas famous university, and working experience of more than 2 years in overseas institutes; and domestic talents who have been selected into the national youth talent programs.
2.1“Thousand Talents Program” for Distinguished Young Scholars
1) Recruited members will be directly employed as a senior professional. A five-year contract will be signed; 2) A competitive salary (negotiable), preferential insurance and medical care compatible with the position of a full-time professor will be offered; 3) Besides the one-off living allowance of RMB500,000 (after tax) provided by the country and RMB250,000 (after tax) by the Guangdong province, SCUT will provide a settlement subsidy of RMB 1.5 million (before tax); or on-campus public rental housing and settlement fee of RMB 50,000 (before tax) with rental to be charged according to the policies of SCUT. 4) Scientific research start-up grant: Up to RMB 5.5 million, including RMB 1~3 million offered by the country, RMB 0.5 million by Guangdong Province, and RMB 2 million by SCUT; 5) A regular recruitment of doctoral students and masters will be guaranteed every year; 6) Recruitment of 1 to 2 postdoctoral fellows will be supported every year; 7) SCUT will assist in offering employment opportunity to his/her spouse and allow his/her children to be enrolled in the kindergarten and experimental school affiliated to SCUT. 2.2 Young Scholar of “Changjiang Scholars Program” by Ministry of Education
1) Recruited members will be directly employed as a senior professional. A five-year contract will be signed; 2) Besides the allowance of RMB100,000 (tax-free for 3 years) provided by the Ministry of Education, SCUT will offer a competitive salary (negotiable), and preferential insurance and medical care compatible with the position of a full-time professor; 3) SCUT will provide a settlement subsidy of RMB 1.5 million (before tax); or on-campus public rental housing and settlement fee of RMB 50,000 (before tax) with rental to be charged according to the policies of SCUT. 4) Scientific research start-up grant: Up to RMB 2 million for scholars in natural sciences, up to RMB 0.8 million for scholars in humanities & social sciences. A regular recruitment of doctoral students and masters will be guaranteed every year; 5) Recruitment of 1 to 2 postdoctoral fellows will be supported every year; 6) SCUT will assist in offering employment opportunity to his/her spouse and allow his/her children to be enrolled in the kindergarten and experimental school affiliated to SCUT; 7) Upon completion of the contract, scholars may choose to proceed with his/her work, and receive no less salary than that of the first contract term.2.3 Candidates of “Thousand Talents Program for Distinguished Young Scholars” and “Changjiang Scholars Program” who have entered the interview stage
2) A competitive salary will be offered; 3) Up to RMB 0.7 million of scientific research start-up grant will be offered in accordance with the characteristics of concerned discipline; 4) SCUT will provide a settlement subsidy of RMB 4500,000 (before tax); or on-campus public rental housing and settlement fee of RMB 50,000 (before tax) with rental to be charged according to the policies of SCUT. 2.4 “Xinghua Scholar Talent Program” by SCUT
Other young talents may apply for “Xinghua Scholar Talent Program” of SCUT. The positions include Elite Scholar, Young Scholar, and Promising Scholar.
1) Corresponding technical title will be appointed, and a five-year contract will be signed; 2) A competitive salary will be offered; 3) Up to RMB 2 million of scientific research start-up grant will be offered in accordance with the characteristics of concerned discipline; 4) SCUT will provide a settlement subsidy of RMB 1 million (before tax); or on-campus public rental housing and settlement fee of RMB 50,000 (before tax) with rental to be charged according to the policies of SCUT. The High Level Professionals Program of the “Pearl River Recruitment Program of Talents” has been launched for the first time in Guangdong province from September 2017. Should excellent young scholar be admitted as Young Elites，he or she will receive up to RMB 500,000 subsidy per year provided by the provincial finance and be granted other benefits for talents in accordance with relevant regulations.
