President Wang Yingjun meets with Professor Mostafa A. El-Sayed

Professor Mostafa A. El-Sayed, a world-renowned researcher in nanoscience and biochemistry, visited SCUT on March 30, and met with Professor Wang Yingjun, President of SCUT, at the Shaw Building of Humanities.
 
Mostafa A. El-Sayed is currently a tenured professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a member of the US National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and a laureate of the US National Medal of Science. In 2011, he was listed No. 17 in Thomson Reuters’ listing of the world’s greatest chemists of the past decade.
 
During the meeting, President Wang Yingjun indicated that SCUT’s Guangzhou International Campus is an initiative committed to frontier scientific research, and the university is sending a wide range of invitations to top universities and scientists around the world to join in. She is very looking forward to seeing collaboration in scientific research between SCUT and Professor El-Sayed in the future.
 
Professor El-Sayed was among the first three NAS members that visited China after the establishment of China-US Diplomatic Relations. He said in the meeting that he has been keeping close academic connections and deep friendships with Chinese researchers, and many of his prime research projects were completed together with Chinese students. He would like to discuss possible ways of cooperation with SCUT, and expected more conversations with related faculties.
 
Heads of administrative offices, SCUT’s School of Biomedical Science and Engineering, and School of Environment and Energy were also present on the meeting.
