The South China Tigers of SCUT, which is a team of student engineers, again brought home the gold trophy of RoboMaster 2018, after they crowned the champions of the same event last year.

Robomaster is a world’s leading competition that showcases the future of robotics. The Tigers, after winning all the three games of the group round, defeated several strong challengers in knock-out rounds, including teams of Dalian Jiaotong University, the Harbin Institute of Technology, and the China University of Mining and Technology.

The final battle kicked off in Shenzhen on July 29,when the Tigers claimed a 3-1 victory against the team from Northeastern University, and remained as the reigning champion of this year.

They have so far maintained a distinguished reputation in the competition, since they also took last year’s title with a same 3-1 victory against the Shandong University of Science and Technology.

RoboMaster is an annual robotics competition for teams of aspiring engineers to design and build next-generation robots for completing difficult tasks and hand-to-hand combat. The annual events are jointly organized by the Communist Youth League of China, the All-China Students' Federation and the Shenzhen municipal government, and hosted by Da-Jiang Innovations Science and Technology Co., Ltd., commonly referred to as DJI.

As the first robot combat elimination tournament in China, it has attracted close attention from hundreds of universities, nearly 1,000 high-tech enterprises and tens of thousands of fans from across the country since its debut.

This year’s events started from May and accepted teams of about 200 universities from around the globe, including the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, the University of Washington, and the Nanyang Technological University.
