Educational Objectives:
This program aims to cultivate the advanced technical and applied talents who have solid theoretical foundations, innovative consciousness and the understanding of the current situation of industry technologies. Graduates are expected to work in scientific research units, government departments, designing institute, university or college, backbone enterprises, foreign company or joint venture, they would be engaged in policy research and consulting, product design, product research, experiment test, technical management , marketing planning, they also could be competent in teaching and research work in universities or colleges.
Objective 1:(solid fundamental knowledge)This program aims to make students master the knowledge of advanced mathematics, physics ,chemistry as well as humanities and social sciences,and have a deep understanding of the basic theories ,knowledge and skills of engineering thermophysics,and be aware of the frontier issuses and development trend of this subject.
 Objective 2:(the ability to solve problems)This program aims to train the students with the ability to analyze the physical process, do numerical calculation and experiment survey related with the major of thermal energy and power engineering, and the ability to solve practical problems.
Objective 3:[Teamwork/Leadership] This program aims to make students have the ability to connect and cooperate in the teamwork, and have the ability to be a leader in the field of thermal energy and power engineering.
Objective 4:[Engineered Systems] (the cognitive ability on  engineering system) This program aims to make students get the basic knowledge and skills of design, operation and experiment about vehicle engine system, air conditioning system and the relative equipment. And to make students be competent in optimization, management and technical innovation about international combustion engine system (or air conditioning system).
Objective 5: (the professional ability to evaluate the social influence) This program aims to train the students with correct understanding of the potential influence that the design and application such as vehicle engine system, air conditioning bring to the daily life, economic structure and human health
Objective 6:[ global perspective and Lifelong Learning] This program aims to make students keep clear consciousness, undertake the responsibility in the globalization environment competitively, and to have the ability of continuous progress and lifelong learning in the field of professional area.
Speciality Features
This programme has a long history at the university. It has many academic members who have overseas education background and/or great working experience. The department also enjoys a close contact with the industry sector and institutes outside the university which are able to offer numerous working or intership opportunities for our graduates. The graduates of this programme are able not only to master basic theories and specialized knowledge of the discipline, but also to have international vision and can adapt easily to the complicated working environment.
Directions within the course: 1. vehicle engine; 2, refrigeration and air conditioning. Students systematically learn the basic knowledge and skills of engineering thermophysics. The direction of vehicle engines: students in this field study in-depth professional knowledge and skills related to the internal combustion engine. In addition, they take the vehicle specialty courses. After graduation, students can go to work in enterprises, research departments, administration sectors, economic and trade enterprises which are related to vehicle engines and other internal combustion engines. The job tasks include the production of internal combustion engine and related equipment design, R & D, testing, management, maintenance, marketing. In addition, students can also be engaged in research and teaching in technical or polytechnical colleges.
The direction of refrigeration and air conditioning: graduates from this specific area can go to refrigeration and air conditioning manufacturers, design institutes, research units, construction units, and the property management sector. They can be engaged in the R & D of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, production management, marketing, and testing, refrigeration and air conditioning system design for public buildings, construction and operation management system, as well as teaching and research at colleges and universities.
Educational Requirement:
This course programme is composed of general basic course, disciplinary basic course, major-related course and practice course. The main major-related course includes engineering thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer and characteristic courses. Total hours of theory teaching courses are 2,286 hours, and the practice training period is 37 weeks. In-class practice includes 98 periods,and credits for graduation is 182. Students are required to have the knowledge structure and quality requirements as follows in order to be enrolled in the programme.
