Educational Objectives:
This major is to cultivate senior technical personnel that are qualified for expertise in highway and urban road transportation planning, traffic information collection and processing, traffic control and management, transportation facilities designing, as well as facility constructions. These personnel are cultivated to adhere to socialism and are fully developed both physically and mentally.
Objective 1: [foundation knowledge] Cultivate students to master basic knowledge on the professional principles, methods and technique, and understand and master advanced methods on planning, analysis, design, management and control and other aspects of transportation, as to apply the basis knowledge to traffic engineering practice.
Objective 2: [problem-solving ability] Cultivate students to have the basic ability of road planning & design, traffic engineering facilities design, traffic management, and traffic control system design according to the regional and city planning, and can solve the traffic problems encountered in engineering practice.
Objective 3: [teamwork and leadership] Cultivate students to have the group cooperation and communication capability, even leadership in transportation engineering area.
Objective 4: [systematic understanding of the discipline] Strengthen the basic training on traffic engineering survey analysis, engineering practice, system design, operation and management, software and hardware design, and cultivate the students awareness that traffic engineering is important for highway and city road engineering system design and equipment, and make it serve the need of the development of transportation industry.
Objective 5: [ability of evaluating social and environmental impacts] Cultivate students to correctly understand the impact of the transportation planning, analysis, design and management to people’s life, industry distribution and economy development, and environment.
Objective 6: [global perspective] Cultivate students to keep clear recognition, to take up their responsibilities competitively and responsibly in the global environment.
Objective 7: [lifelong learning] Cultivate students to have a positive attitude, self-learning capability, and be qualified for the planning, design, development and research work in transportation related fields, where lifelong learning ability is a must. Students of the programme have the capacity of lifelong learning.
Programme Features:
This major focuses on highway and urban road transportation, and puts emphases on the fundamental theories and professional skills training concerning traffic engineering. Students are to be familiar with knowledge on modern traffic engineering, traffic information collection and processing, traffic control and management, transportation planning and analysis, transportation facilities designing, etc. This specialty trains students to be high-class engineering professionals who could work on planning, designing, developing and researching. Furthermore, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is the distinguishing feature of this major. The education plan puts emphasis on theory study on ITS related computer technology, electronic communications technology, information processing technology, and enhancing the practice ability on intelligent transportation management and control.
