Educational Objectives:
The objectives of this programme is to train students to be outstanding talents to meet the needs of socialist modernization, develop in an all-round way to grasp the basic theory and basic knowledge of civil engineering.
Objective 1: [foundation knowledge] Cultivate students to master the basic knowledge of Civil Engineering, a higher level of English and the ability of operating computer. In order to help students prepare themselves to apply these foundations to the practice of civil engineering, technological knowledge, methods and approaches are going to be delivered, including the knowledge of design, construction, management, project plan and research development.
Objective 2: [problem-solving ability] Cultivate students’ capabilities to creatively solve the engineering problems with professional knowledge and foundations, and strengthen students’ engineering practice and creative abilities.
Objective 3: [teamwork and leadership] Cultivate students’ communication and cooperation abilities in the team, especially the leadership in civil engineering projects.
Objective 4: [systematic understanding of the discipline] Students will be aware of the importance of civil engineering in development of national economy.  Only when the engineers are qualified with excellent practical abilities, information collection abilities,language abilities and creative abilities, they are able to carry the heavy duty in this field.
Objective 5: [ability of evaluating social and environmental impacts] Students not only have the first class knowledge and capacities in China, but also can catch up development of south China, Hong Kong and Macau and south and east Asia.  Furthermore, they should be brought in line with the international civil engineering field.
Objective 6: [global perspective] Broaden students’ global outlook and cultivate students’ international intercourse ability. Make them responsible and competitive to take their duties with logical thinking in the global environment.
Objective 7: [lifelong learning] Students can be qualified for many kinds of careers as survey, design, construction, management, education, investment and development, and have the capacity of lifelong learning.
Speciality Features:
The excellent English teaching program in Civil Engineering major is conducted for exploring the cultivating model of innovative personal, focusing on training students to master the mechanics, the basic structural theory and design methods, advanced construction technology and project management expertise, and at least one foreign language, as well as basic computer skills. The majority of the courses are taught in English. The program has a pragmatic and innovative style in teaching, performed by our excellent teachers who also work as mentors for professional learning, research and guidance for each student. The programme also involves public lectures on the most advanced developments in science and technology, and also chances to be involved in international projects. Students will establish a comprehensive quality of humanity and natural science through the programme, becoming competitive and innovative in the international domain of civil engineering.
