SCUT will be working together with the Guangzhou Development District (GZDD) to build a new institute to promote scientific research and technology transfer in intelligent engineering, according to a framework agreement that was signed last week.
The signing ceremony of confirming the initiative, known as the Guangzhou Intelligent Engineering Research Institute, was celebrated on May 9, with university leaders, government leaders, and academics attending the event, including Zhang Xichun, Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee, Zhou Yawei, Secretary of the CPC Working Committee of the GZDD, and Yu Qijun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee.
According to Zhou Yawei, the GZDD currently contributes 45 percent of Guangzhou’s industrial output, while its share in high-tech industry reaches about 70 percent. The Guangzhou Science Town and Knowledge Town are both located in the area, which extend keen interest in developing intelligent engineering industry on a solid basis.
Zhang Xichun said that SCUT, after years of advancing cooperation with the GZDD, has carried out a number of high-quality projects of technology transfer in the area and produced convincing results. The initiative of building the new institute was launched upon the opportunity brought by the Guangzhou International Campus, the academic strength of top faculty members, and SCUT’s rich experience in constructing nation-level research facilities.
SCUT’s Guangzhou Intelligent Engineering Research Institute will be focusing on fundamental research as well as technology transfer in forefront fields, including artificial intelligence, intelligent manufacturing, unmanned technology, robot, nanomaterials and device manufacturing, industrial big data, and intelligent equipment and testing.
