Liao Qingqing, a graduate of SCUT’s Class 1963, donated 50 million yuan to the university on Tuesday, while a house named after her was unveiled on campus.

Zhang Xichun, Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee, and Wang Yingjun, President of SCUT, on behalf of the university, accepted the donation from Liao Qingqing and her husband Ye Chenghai.

The recently-completed house, named the Qingqing Building of Liberal Arts and Sciences, was numbered the 37th building of SCUT’s Wushan Campus.

This was the largest donation that SCUT has received since 2012, and also the largest one that ever came from female graduates.

In 1963, Liao was admitted into the Chemical Engineering Department of the South China Institute of Technology, which was the predecessor of the current SCUT. She and her husband Ye Chenghai jointly founded Shenzhen Salubris Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. in 1998.

The company was listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2009, and was included in China’s top 10 listed pharmaceutical companies with the most creative research capacity in 2017 and 2018.
